Operation Burq: K-Electric removes more than 4,600 illegal connections

Karachi: K-Electric released the latest data under its Operation Burq campaign which is targeting heavy defaulters and electricity thieves across the city. As per the latest numbers 4,680 illegal connections were removed from areas such as North Nazimabad, Surjani, Nazimabad, Gadap, Korangi, Landhi, Johar, Malir, Bin Qasim, Shah Faisal, Lyari and Sadr.

 An illegal PMT was lifted near Al-Habib restaurant on Super Highway which was feeding electricity to a famous residential project, Saima Villas. Arrests were made from this raid after some resistance was shown by the locals whereas investigation against those involved has commenced. A sea-food cold storage near Ibrahim Hyderi was also raided and caught red-handed and the Rangers made 11 arrests from this spot.

In another raid commercial and residential electricity thieves were targeted in North Nazimabad whereas arrests were made and an FIR was launched. More than 500 illegal connections were removed from North Karachi and in the area of Lyari, a few welding shops, Shoe-making factories were also raided and the culprits were penalized.

 A few other raids were conducted in Bhittai Colony, Bilal Colony and Lucknow Society in Korangi during early hours where major discrepancies were found and removed.

KE’s spokesman added, “we would like to tell our media friends that from areas where illegal connections are being removed along with illegal PMTs, these culprits resort to protests and block roads which is uncalled for. We are conducting these raids round-the-clock and these are done after thorough investigation”.
