Tech Mela supported by Google set to be Pakistan’s biggest online shopping festival

Karachi: From 11 to 20 September 2015, the largest online tech shopping festival in Pakistan will be on at www.techmela.com. Dubbed ‘Tech Mela’, this Google-supported online shopping event will last for a total of 10 days and focus on exclusive, special deals and discounts of up to 30% on smartphones, gadgets and data and voice plans that are only available online during this special period.

“Pakistan’s mobile industry is really taking off with more and more people coming online and using their smartphones as their primary Internet device,” said Tania Aidrus, Country Manager South Asia Frontier at Google. “It is absolutely the right time to hold this virtual shopping festival just before the traditional holiday and festive period of Eid-ul-Adha and what better way than to hold it completely online where the next wave of buyers will be congregating. With Internet penetration growing rapidly and the desire to purchase on the Internet increasing, we hope this initiative will bring more awareness and adoption of e-commerce in Pakistan.”

According to TNS Research, there are 30 million online users in Pakistan, half of whom are using mobile for the purpose. Google is teaming up with e-commerce partner and top online shopping destination Daraz.pk to make Tech Mela happen this week onwards. To make things even more exciting, aside from special deals Tech Mela will also feature deals from Huawei, Samsung and Microsoft and several exclusive mobile device launches to the Pakistan market by companies like Infinix and Injoo.

“The majority of digital consumers in Pakistan are already researching online to decide which device to purchase, and for the most part they find online resources more relevant and credible to their purchase journey;” said Tania, “Tech Mela is an initiative to complete the research and purchase loop, and we hope the exclusive deals will spur greater acceptance of e-commerce among even more Pakistanis.”
