You may have seen many people have a hole above their ears and wondered what’s that for. In reality this is a birth defect known as “preauricular sinus.”
It does not harm your ears but if get infected then may create problems, but even then can easily be dealt by using antibiotics.
In west only 1% people are born with preauricular sinus, while in Asia the percentage can be up to 5% and in some African countries it’s even higher.
It is not necessary to have holes on both ears, because half of the people with preauricular sinus has hole in just one ear.
