Lafarge Pakistan Launches a bypass road Near Jalebi Chawk

Islamabad: The launch ceremony of a Bypass road off Jalebi Chowk was held at Lafarge Pakistan’s operations in Kallar Kahar, District Chakwal, recently. The bypass road was launched in the presence of Honorable members of the local community Mr Malik Muhammad Aslam Sehthi, Mr. Pir Waqar Hussain and local Administration of District Chakwal including the DCO and DSP. The ceremony was also graced by village heads of District Chakwal, Media friends and Management of Lafarge Pakistan.

The bypass road is constructed near a T-junction, Jalebi Chowk,  5.5 km away from Lafarge Pakistan Plant. The junction has been a cause of major road hazards for vehicles going towards and on the trunk road (Chao Saidan Shah Road). There have been fatal accidents in the past at Jalebi Chawk T-junction. Lafarge Pakistan embarked on this initiative to address the safety of the local community and prevent fatal accidents. The bypass road will prevent vehicles from colliding at the Jalebi Chawk T-junction by routing the traffic to a separate route connecting Choai Mallot road to the Chao Saidan Shah road. The bypass road is 700 meters long and 13 meters wide. A slip road was built last year on the same road for the safety of vehicles with failed brakes.

“The newly launched 700 meters long bypass road near Jalebi Chawk is Lafarge’s contribution to better Health & Safety standards for the local community and surrounding villages of District Chakwal. In line with our Leadership in Health & Safety, the bypass road will go a long way in ensuring valuable human lives remain safe on the road without facing life threatening hazards” said Mr. Amr Reda, Country Chief Executive Officer, Lafarge Pakistan Cement Limited, on the occasion. “Furthermore, it will provide traffic, en route from Choe Mallot road to Chao Sadan Shah road, an escape from the T-junction at Jalebi chawk which previously posed a serious threat to the safety of lives on the road” he added.

While applauding the initiative of Lafarge Pakistan, honorable members of the local community thanked and congratulated Lafarge Pakistan on launching the bypass road for the benefit of the local community, contributing to the lives of the people of District Chakwal.

Lafarge Pakistan has undertaken various initiatives over the past few months to cater to the Health & Safety of the local community of District Chakwal, which are highly applauded by the locals and address their needs for Health & Safety. The recently inaugurated Medical unit, within 4 months of launch, has gone miles in addressing diseases and bringing medical specialists to the area which was previously deprived of decent medical services. The recently launched Parking complex is also functional and is fully addressing road hazards caused by trucks carrying raw materials and fuel.

The esteemed guests at the event, including DPO, DSP, local community members and media friends, were given a site visit of the bypass road. The guests applauded Lafarge’s Health & Safety best practices and commitment to the local community.
