KE’s Operation Burq – 10,000 Kundas removed 

Karachi:  Operation Burq continues with zeal and according to details different areas of Karachi were raided which includes Raees Goth in SITE from where previously local resistance was evident. KE’s team along with the Federal Investigation Agency raided these previously “No-Go Areas” and with the support of the LEAs pulled down illegal PMTs along with illegal connections.

As per details released by the power utility almost 10,000 illegal connections were pulled down which weighed over 4,300 KG. A total of 3 FIRs were lodged against culprits involved in electricity theft which also included an illegal water hydrant based in North Nazimabad. On the other hand in the area of Malir 5 illegal PMTs were lifted and 6 people were taken into custody who were involved in electricity theft.

Raids were conducted in Baldia, SITE, Bahadurabad, Nazimabad, Tipu Sultan, Garden, Clifton, Defence, Korangi, Johar, Shah Faisal, North Karachi, Surjani, Gulshan and Malir.

Spokesman KE added, “There is a false perception being built that the power utility is only going after the small-time culprits which is absolutely false. We have targeted major players as well and even some of the names have been released to the Media. It is saddening that in this operation we have also found Hospitals, residential places belonging to influential people of the society”.

KE’s press statement added that an illegal Kunda Network was pulled down in the area of Garden, Sadr, where some strong influential people were involved in not only using illegal connections, but also in providing illegal supply to the area consumers. Arrests were made and these culprits have been apprehended by Police.
